Text for this tour draws from material in River Walk: The Epic Story of San Antonio’s River, a national award winning book by Lewis F. Fisher. The book untangles the story of the San Antonio River through its role as the lifeblood of a Spanish town and its decline to a sluggish trickle, then analyzes its improbable revival as it evolved into the state’s top travel destination.
For generations San Antonians spun tales of rescue that rank with the most entertaining Texas yarns. Outsiders swallowed them whole. This book set things straight. River Walk, profusely illustrated with 230 images, is available in both hardcover and softcover editions.
